In this volume, Jürgen Becker gives an overall view of the history and theology of the Johannine circle. In view of the controversial developments in research, he has collected his own studies on this topic in this volume, providing a concept which underlines the major decisions and approaches. He begins by examining the social conditions and outlines the history of a circle, a circle within which he has drawn the theological communication in Johannine Christianity in chronological order. The author's study focuses on this subject, paying special attention of course to the fourth evangelist and 1 John. The book closes with a section on the relationship between the Johannine circle and Early Christianity.
