Zusatztext
Based on a new dating of the Apocalypse of John between 132 and 135 AD, Thomas Witulski explains the text Apoc 11:1-13 in a new way which can solve those problems which had not been satisfactorily interpreted up to now. With his explanations in Apoc 11, the author of the Apocalypse of John reflects on the Bar Kokhba war (132-135 AD). The two witnesses in Apoc 11 represent Bar Kokhba and the priest Elazar, the political and spiritual leader of this second Jewish revolt against the Imperium Romanum. In the beginning the rebels had some success, but their rebellion was then put down by the emperor Hadrian, the beast from the abyss. In the end, the leading rebels were killed and Jerusalem was destroyed. Thus this interpretation of Apoc 11 is able to confirm the dating of the Apocalypse in Hadrianic times, between 132 and 135 AD.
