Adaptations and the study of them have always been popular and difficult. In this book Hayao Miyazakis film adaptation of the novel Howls Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones is analyzed. In the first part attention is paid to anime in general and to director Hayao Miyazaki and his style specifically. The English and Japanese cultural context is also considered. In the second part the film and novel are examined by using the medium specific adaptation theory. In the last part the transformational adaptation theory is used to explore important themes and give some interpretation.

Verena Kurz pursues teaching certification in English and Mathematics at the University of Regensburg. While studying there she learned Japanese. Due to her interests she wrote "Analysis of Hayao Miyazaki's Film Adaptation Howl's Moving Castle".
