Seminar paper from the year 2007 in the subject American Studies - Comparative Literature, grade: 1,0, Technical University of Braunschweig, language: English, abstract: In order to work out similarities in the lines of thought expressed in the screenplay to the movie "THX 1138" by George Lucas and Don DeLillo's novel "White Noise", the author performs a close reading of both texts. While the plots of both works are completely different, this paper aims to show that the thoughts, beliefs and fears of cold-war-America expressed in both works - death, echnology, capitalism versus communism, and the impact of media on society and the individual - can be found in both texts.
