Zusatztext
Marcel Broodthaers is "an artist's artist." His influence on recent art history cannot be overstated. His "Musée d'Art Moderne" was one of the highlights at the legendary Szeemann documenta in 1972. Broodthaers was a poet, artist, photographer, filmmaker, critic, teacher, collector, antiquarian, gallery owner, curator and museum director. In 1963 the poet decided to become a visual artist. However, he never lost his connection to language and poetry. The object enters, in its spatiality and materiality, into his poetic engagement with the order of things. His work, full of poetry, is an essential bridge between classic modernism and contemporary art. Despite several large exhibitions-all of the catalogues are out of print- knowledge of his work has thus far been the reserve of the specialists. In this monograph, edited by The Museum of Modern Art New York and featuring more than 500 mostly color illustrations, renowned authors present and discuss his complete oeuvre for the first time.
