ROCK-O-PATION - the rocking counterpart to the classic snare book Syncopation for the Modern Drummer by Ted Reed - is more than just an exercise book. Now you an perfect your sight-reading in the rock idiom in a systematic way. The bilingual edition (English/German) offers speciffc exercises in 4/4, but also in odd and even changing meters. For each reading exercise, there are suggestions for bass drum and hi-hat patterns to transfer the snare-only exercise to the drum set. This way you practice both, sight-reading and coordination and Sperie makes suggestions to incorporate these patterns into your own drum grooves. Completing the exercises in this book will prepare you for all the challenges you will face as a pop and rock drummer.

Sperie Karas studierte an der Juilliard School in New York. Während dieser Zeit gründete er eine Band, die unter anderem in der Carnegie Hall und dem berühmten Birdland auftrat. Einige Jahre später ging er nach Europa, um mit Eddie Sauter in der SWF Band in Deutschland zu spielen. Danach wechselte er zur WDR Big Band in Köln, was ihm die Möglichkeit eröffnete, mit vielen herausragenden internationalen Jazzmusikern zusammenzuarbeiten. Die pädagogische Arbeit war immer ein wichtiger Aspekt in Speries musikalischem Schaffen, und er ist auch heute noch in diesem Bereich aktiv. Seine Lehrbücher sind bei Alfred Music, Ludwig Masters und anderen internationalen Musikverlagen erschienen.
