Zusatztext
This experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of rural community dumpsites on heavy metals contents of soils in Uhi-Ehor Community in Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo -State. The sites were two separate dumpsites and an adjacent soil. The adjacent soil acted as control. At each site five soil samples were randomly obtained from a 25m x 25m plot with the aid of an augar and at two depths 0-15cm and 15-30cm. samples were bagged and labeled separately, they were air-dried, sieved using 2mm copper sieve and taken to the laboratory for analysis. The metals and chemical properties analyzed for were Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn, Ni, Cr, Co, Pb Al3+, pH and organic matter. Values obtained were subjected to both descriptive statistics and analysis of variance ANOVA ( p 0.05). Means values obtained were separated using LSD at (p 0.05) were significant differences was detected. Results revealed that values of all the heavy metals, pH and organic matter were significantly higher ( p 0.05) in the dumpsites when compared to that adjacent soil. All the values of heavy metals obtained were below critical level as established by some European countries.
