Responding to this diminished state of affairs, the feminist contributions through arts, literature, the media and scholarships have challenged the notions of patriarchy and have continuously struggled to reclaim and re-conceptualize the womens self by incorporating their experiences. This book seeks to spotlight and examine the subjectivity of the black female by recourse to choreodramatic texts by the twentieth century African American female playwright Ntozake Shange. Being female, black and in a middle-class, the female characters of Shange in the plays for colored girls who have considered suicide when the rainbow is enuf, spell#7, a photograph lovers in motion, boogie woogie landscape and from okra to greens: a different kinda love story: a play with music and dance. undergoes the triple jeopardy of class, race and gender.
