This novel, based on the author's autobiography, tells the story of a young man named Hassan who spent his childhood in Gaza with his two brothers, both members of Hamas, and his parents and younger sister. Hassan witnessed firsthand the contradictions between the sheikhs' words and actions, their refusal to engage in debate, and the pressures that led him to leave his studies at Hamas's Islamic University and travel to Algeria to study media at one of its universities. Upon his return to Gaza, Hassan observes the stark contrast between the resistance's behavior, which evaporated after the Oslo Accords, the First Intifada, and the armed conflict between Fatah and Hamas.
