- Charlotte Perkins Gilman (July 3, 1860 August 17, 1935), also known as Charlotte Perkins Stetson, her first married name, was an American humanist, novelist, writer of short stories, poetry and nonfiction, and a lecturer for social reform. Kate Chopin (February 8, 1850 August 22, 1904) was an American author of short stories and novels based in Louisiana. Gertrude Stein (February 3, 1874 July 27, 1946) was an American novelist, poet, playwright, and art collector. Edith Wharton (January 24, 1862 August 11, 1937) was an American novelist, short story writer, and designer. Edith Nesbit (15 August 1858 4 May 1924) was an English author and poet; she published her books for children under the name of E. Nesbit. Susan Glaspell (July 1, 1876 July 28, 1948) was an American playwright, novelist, journalist and actress. Kathleen Mansfield (14 October 1888 9 January 1923) was a prominent modernist writer who was born and brought up in New Zealand.
