- Gut 500 Grands Prix alt und Zeuge der großen Sportwagenrennen der Sechziger- und Siebzigerjahre, zählt Hartmut Lehbrink zu der Handvoll Journalisten im Media Centre, die bereits die Frontmotorautos der Fünfzigerjahre in Aktion sahen. Die Anreise nach Spa und zum Nürburgring erfolgte damals per Fahrrad - zugleich als gutes Training verwertet, da er ehrgeiziges Mitglied im Essener Radrennverein »Staubwolke« war. Lehbrink studierte englische und deutsche Philologie in Genf, Münster und Bonn. Ab 1971 schrieb er für auto motor und sport, die ADAC Motorwelt und zahlreiche andere große Publikationen und ist Autor von über 30 Büchern, 23 davon aus dem Umkreis der Formel 1. Sein Interesse galt und gilt neben dem immer neuen Drama Grand Prix vor allem den Fahrerpersönlichkeiten und der Historie. Deshalb begann er frühzeitig, Legenden wie Elisabeth Junek, Hans Stuck, Hermann Lang, Manfred von Brauchitsch und Karl Kling aufzusuchen. Die Passion für diesen Sport, hat Lehbrink längst resignierend festgestellt, währt lebenslänglich.
